Under the Sign of the Square and Compasses - Freemasonry in Magdeburg

To this day, Freemasonry is often associated with secrets, rituals, and myths. Yet across generations, it has been and remains one thing above all else: part of Magdeburg's bourgeois urban society and history. To mark the 200th anniversary of the Harpokrates Masonic Lodge in Magdeburg, the Magdeburg Cultural History Museum, in cooperation with the lodge, is presenting the history and significance of Freemasonry in the state capital. The special exhibition sheds light on Freemasonry from its beginnings through its heyday and the period of persecution and prohibition to its new beginning after 1990, placing it in its historical, social, and cultural context.
